voffice1210_120Village of Lansing Trustees received a progress report on a new Village Hall Monday.  The &$700,000+ project went out for bids for the second time on April 10th.  Village officials put the project on hold last year when bids came in considerably higher than expected.  Deputy Mayor Lynn Leopold said Monday that eight bids for general contractor and five for subcontractors are currently under review.

The 2,662 square foot office building will include offices for the Village Clerk, Code Enforcement Office, and DPW, and will include a public meeting room and an office for the Trustees and Mayor.

Most of the money for the project is in capital reserve funds, with the rest coming from unexpended fund balance.  The project is not expected to cost villagers additional taxes.  In fact, the Village tax rate is estimated to go down by four cents from 99 cents to 95 cents in a budget that was passed two weeks ago.

"We anticipate having adequate funding for our new building," says Mayor Donald Hartill.  "We have adequate capital reserves to cover any changes."

The building will be located on Triphammer road in front of the current Village Office building.  The main entrance will face south, with parking in front.

According to Hartill, the new building will address health and safety problems, provide much needed storage space especially in the Codes Office, and house all Village employees in one facility.  Pump noise and vibration has created problems for employees and Village officials when working and meeting in old building.  The old building will be used primarily for records storage, with the old meeting room opened up for more community meetings.

Hartill says Wick's Law has driven up the price of the project because the municipality is forced to accept separate bids on general, plumbing, heating, and electrical contractors.  Additional expense has been added to the project for moving utilities  to make room for the building site.

Village officials say they hope the building will be completed this year.
