The Lansing Wrestling team competed in The Mike Watson Invitational Tournament last weekend, finishing in a suprising 3rd place as a team.  "We had 5 wrestlers in the semi-finals and four made it to the finals".  Kyle Dake improved his record to 27-0 pinning Cody Budd of South Seneca in the finals at 112, Jon Glennon had a major decision in the 140 weight class beating Justin Hall of Odessa-Montour 12-2.

Vernon Nabinger,wrestling at 135, lost a tough match 6-4 in overtime to Jon Roberts from Rush-Henretta. Matt Starner made it to the first final of his career in the 152 pound bracket, but fell short of the title losing to Brian Thall of Waverly. Curtis Fenner lost a tough match in the semi-finals at 145, to Don Bower from Corning. Curtis was dominating the match 7-0 when Bower hit a head-lock and pinned Fenner. Curt wrestled back and took 3rd avenging a earlier season loss to Waverly's Zack McCutheon. Matt Martin wrestled hard and rounded out the Bobcat placers taking 5th at 160.

The Wrestling team also had a home Dual meet last evening, wrestling Newark Valley. Newark Valley won the highly competitive meet 35-27. Lansing was missing senior Vernon Nabinger due to injury, which might have made the match a lot closer. "Hopfully we get him back for the sectionals," said Coach Dake .

Lansing will travel back to WatkinsGlen this weekend for the IAC tournament Saturday 1/20/07. Wrestling starts at 10:00 am.
