Cargill Deicing Technology was named Corporate Philanthropist of the Year at an awards ceremony at the Ithaca Country Club November 16th.  The 11th annual awards ceremony is hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, celebrating National Philanthropy Day.  The Lansing salt mine was honored for local giving, as well as world-wide corporate giving that amounted to more than $69.9 million in fiscal 2012.  Franziska Racker Center Executive Director Roger Sibley presented the award to Mine Manager Russ Givens.

Cargill gives money to Franziska Racker Centers, the United Way of Tompkins County, The  Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and 84 other local charitable and community based organizations.  That is in addition to donations of materials, the loan of equipment, and employees who donate their time to local efforts.  This year the company donated $5,000 to the Lansing Fireworks and Harbor Festival, as well as equipment and labor for those events and the Vietnam Veteran's Annual Watchfire.

This year Franziska Racker Centers received $100,000 from Cargill as well as 50 mine tours that were sold for at least $1,000 apiece.

Former Philanthropist of the Year Andy Sciarabba sponsored a table of Lansing representatives to show support for the local business.
