sat 120Lansing students earned the third highest SAT scores in upstate New York, according to an article Wednesday in Buffalo Business First.  50 Lansing students who took the test scored an average of 1,754 of a possible 2,400 points in the three elements of the test.  Ithaca City School District ranked number one of all upstate schools.

The rankings reflect the 2013 SATs, the latest available scores at this time.  The list is for public schools only.  Private school scores are not ranked.  Each segment of the SAT has a maximum score of 800 and a minimum of 200.

The breakdown for Lansing was an average of 589 on the reading segment, 599 in math, and 566 for writing.

The top five upstate schools of 470 ranked include Ithaca High School, Pittsford Sutherland High School, Lansing High School, City Honors School in Buffalo, and Brighton High School.  Six Buffalo high schools are at the bottom of the list with the lowest average cumulative score of 949 going to Lafayette High School.

Tompkins County scored well overall.  The combined average score at Ithaca High School was 1,766, Lansing 1,754, Lehman Alternative Community School 1,677, Dryden 1,629, Trumansburg 1,596, Newfield 1,484 and Groton 1,399.  In the breakdown between test sections Ithaca, Trumansburg, newfield and Groton students scored best in reading.  Lansing and Dryden did a little better in math than in reading.  Ithaca had the edge over Lansing in reading and writing, but Lansing scored higher (599) than Ithaca (589), on average, in math.
