On 02-21-07, deputies arrested George Washington Jr., age 47, of 116 Glenwood Ave., Syracuse, NY. Washington was arrested on a warrant charging him with two counts of Grand Larceny 4th, Class E Felonies.

On both 05-26-06 and 05-27-06, deputies received complaints from the Lansing Extra Mart located at 32 Peruville Road, Lansing, NY. Both complaints involved several subjects entering the store and stealing several thousand dollars worth of cigarettes from a back storage room. Two male subjects stole the cigarettes, while unidentified female subjects distracted the store clerk. Washington is alleged to be one of the male subjects.

Washington was arrested by the Skaneateles PD for a similar incident and has since been in Onondaga County Jail. He was turned over to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office on the warrant upon his release from Onondaga County.

Due to the caller reporting the incident by cellular phone to 911, his call had to be transferred to Tompkins County 911 from an outside agency who had received the call, resulting in a delay of police arrival. A common problem with cellular phone calls placed to 911. The suspects therefore fled the scene prior to arrival.

An active arrest warrant is still in place for the second male suspect identified as Eugene S. Gilbert of Syracuse, NY.

Upon arrest, Washington was arrainged by Judge Howell of the Town of Lansing Court. He was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $10,000/$20,000 cash/bond bail. He is scheduled to reappear in the court on 02-27-07 at 5:00 PM.
