kyledake_bw120Spring, PA. — Brute Wrestling announced Wednesday that it has signed four-time NCAA wrestling champion, Kyle Dake to an exclusive footwear endorsement contract. As part of the agreement, Brute will be introducing a new top-line wrestling shoe carrying Kyle Dake’s name.

The Lansing Bobcat Track & Field team wrapped up the 2014 outdoor season with four D2 podium finishes at the state championships meet in Cicero North Syracuse on Friday June 6 and Saturday June 7.

The pole vaulters, coached by Matt Scheffler (Groton '99) had three podium finishers.  Dylan Bland won the state championship with a vault of 14 feet.  Max Jordan finished 4th, also clearing 14 feet, but with more attempts needed.  Hayley Wigsten placed 4th in the girls pole vault with a vault of 10 ft 6 inches.   Bland also finished 7th in the Federation competition.

heck_120Boys Coach of the Year Adam HeckTaughannock Media, owners of ESPN Ithaca – WPIE, in partnership with Ehrhart Energy and Cayuga Medical Center, is recognizing 55 coaches and scholar-athletes for their outstanding performances during the 2013-14 school year. The recipients, many accompanied by family, colleagues and friends, will be celebrated at the Night of Champions Awards Dinner at the Country Club of Ithaca at 6pm on Sunday, June 8th.

This inaugural event is designed to showcase the top talent of all varsity sports from 15 local high schools including most of the IAC and one in the STAC West.

posticon Lansing Track Bobcats Win 4 Events

track_jordan120Lansing Bobcats won four events at the Section 4 Class C meet in Greene NY on Thursday May 22.  A brief but torrential rain and hail storm cleared the field for about 20 minutes before competition resumed as the sun came out.

Max Jordan won the pole vault and set a new school record of 14 ft 7 inches.  Ben Roarke placed 2nd clearing 13 ft.   In girls pole vaulting, Hayley Wigsten placed 3rd with 9 ft 6 in; Miya Kuramoto placed 4th and Emily Gallagher placed 5th, both clearing 9 feet.

posticon Tennis Bobcats Win 5th Consecutive IAC Title

tennisThe Lansing Tennis Bobcats wrapped their 2014 regular season with wins against TAE and Moravia finishing the season at 11-0. This marks the 5th straight regular season IAC title for the Lansing Tennis program and the 4th straight undefeated season in the IAC conference. The overall record in the IAC's record during that 5 year period is 49-1.

Lansing cruised to it's 5th straight IAC tournament title to go with it's 5th straight IAC regular season crown.

posticon Lansing Boys Track Team Second At IAC Large School Championships

track_benrourkehurdles_120Lansing Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams competed for three days last week at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference held at Dryden High School.  ​The boys team was the large school runner up, finishing second to Trumansburg.

​Ben Rourke won three events:  the 110 hurdles (16.31 seconds), the High Jump ( 5 ft 10 in), and the Pentathlon.  Ben set a new Lansing school record in the pentathlon with 3165 points, breaking the old record previously held by coach Rusty Landon.  Also competing in the pentathlon was Austin Kandea, who finished 2nd with 2703 points.  The pentathlon includes the 110 hurdles, the high jump, the long jump, the shot put, and the 1500 meter run.

posticon Lansing Track Athletes Stand Out at Invitational

track2Last Friday the Lansing track team competed in the Legends of the Night Invitational at Odessa. The team had three boys with standout performances. Senior Ben Rourke won the high jump, was 2nd in the shot put, 2nd in the pole vault, and 2nd in the long jump. Senior Dylan Bland won the pole vault with a state qualifying mark of 13' 6" and was 3rd in the 100m. Senior Anders Presthus won the discus and won the shot put with a new meet record and state qualifying mark of 49'5". These three boys scored all 70 of the team's points, which led them to an overall 2nd place finish among 17 competing teams.

softball120Lansing Varsity Softball improved to 3-3 on the season with wins over Dryden and Spencer Van Etten.

Mattie Arcangeli got the win in both games. Kaleigh Hotchkin has hit safely in all six games. Lady cats have suffered several injuries on the season, but still managed to improve everyday.

The Lady Cat schedule continues to be tough as they will see action in 5-7 days

tennisThe Lansing Tennis Bobcats opened the 2014 Spring Season with three victories in the IAC. The Bobcats were led by senior Andy Parkes at #1 Singles as they swept their first three matches. The Lansing Tennis Squad looks for it's 5th straight IAC crown led by Parkes with the help of many newcomers and last year's young talent.

Fresh faces to the starting line-up include Ben Eisenhut, John Schafer, Ethan Buchanan and Emily Schweitzer.  From last year's Sectional Champions Zoli Csaki and Ryan Buchanan return and move up from playing primarily doubles into top singles positions. Joining the new faces in the line-up are Max Avramis, Sarah Gisler and Audrey Montague who seek to make their place on the 2014 Lansing tennis squad. Other members of the team looking to contribute are: Amanda Van, Matt Robinson, Chris Robinson, Paige Kieper, Skye Richardson, Emory Iacobucci, Lauren Phlegar, Zach Dennis, Tori Swanson and Sophia Pitti-Daly.

Mike Nozzolio and Thurman Thomas

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with Thurman Thomas, Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame running back, during his recent visit to the State Capitol in Albany. Senator Nozzolio and Thurman Thomas discussed their shared belief in the role that athletics plays in the character and development of our young people as well as their role in their local communities.  Nozzolio has supported athletic programs at every level throughout his tenure in the State Legislature, from little league programs to college level play.

Thurman Thomas holds the all-time Buffalo Bills rushing record of 11,938 yards and lead the team to four straight Super Bowl appearances.

posticon Lansing Scores Two Medals at State Indoor Track and Field Championship

tf_medal120Four Lansing Bobcat Track and Field jumpers and throwers competed at the NYS State Championships on March 1 in Barton Hall at Cornell.

Max Jordan cleared 14 ft 3 in, setting a new personal best.  Dylan Bland cleared 14 ft 0 in, equaling his personal best. In the NYS public school competition Junior Max Jordan and Senior Dylan Bland finished 5th and 6th respectively.  In the NYS Federation school competition Junior Max Jordan and Senior Dylan Bland finished 6th and 8th respectively.
