Lansing's Board of Education (BOE) was in for a special treat last Monday as representatives from the third grade presented "A Slice of Life" from the Elementary School.  Interim Principal Earlene Carr introduced her students in the High School Library last Monday.  The students demonstrated what they have been learning, including technology, math, reading and social studies.

With teachers Lynn VandePoel, Sherry Williams, Ginny Reitano, Calvin Lange and Denise Kaminsky accompanying students for moral support, the students gave prepared presentations, often dressed for the part, with examples of their work.  The presentation began with Hayley Wigsten presenting a PowerPoint presentation students had made, entitled "Teachers We Love," which showed the third grade teachers with captions that told what their students thought of them.

Next came a presentation by Shane Hradisky on third grade math and how it is taught in the Elementary School.  In social studies the students have been studying China, and many facts and projects were shared.  Aurora Allen showed an "ABC" book students had made, which each letter of the alphabet related to a fact about China.

Carlyn Matheny told the BOE about the jerboa, an African animal she had prepared a report on.  This was followed by Zachary Dennis explaining water condensation and evaporation, William Lewis on reading and Sophia Pity on creative writing and a demonstration of Chinese ribbon dancing by Mattie Arcangeli and John Loasurdo.

All the students were well spoken and prepared, many asking for questions.  BOE members obliged them, following up on their presentations.  Students were given certificates of appreciation by Board President Bonita Lindberg as Carr wrapped up the presentation.
