Following up on their #1 New York State Class C ranking after the 2005-2006 season, the boys’ varsity swim team has begun the 2006-2007 season extremely well, breaking multiple school and pool records during wins over I.A.C. rivals Dryden, Watkins Glen, Southern Springs and Odessa Montour. The team has been led by its phenomenal group of upperclassmen and bolstered by the talented depth of its younger crew.

Already this season, the Medley Relay team of Jake Sangren, Hans Roser, Aaron Mychack and Sterling Gell has twice broken the Lansing school record, with a most recent state qualifying time of 1:40.78. Jake Sangren also broke Rick Ducharme’s record in the 100 Backstroke with a 55:32 swim during the Watkins Glen meet. Jake’s time is a new I.A.C. backstroke record, besting former Glen swimmer Kevin Murphy’s time from 2001.

Sophomore Dan Ravas had a part in the team’s record breaking performances, as well, when he teamed with Hans, Aaron and Sterling to break the school record in the 200 Freestyle Relay, clocking in at 1:32.44. In addition to their state qualifying time in the medley relay, Hans, Jake and Sterling have qualified for states in individual events, surpassing the state meet cut times in the 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle respectively.

The team has its final, and most challenging, pre-break competition when they face Waverly on December 21st. It should be a great meet to round things out as the group heads into winter training mode.
